Damnoen Saduak Floating market
A floating market that’s more than 100 years old and you should never miss this place! We visited here on a Sunday and the market was crowded with local and foreign nationals. Some were busy bargaining and some busy eating all the way……some clicking pics, some documenting scenes on video… some busy on mobile! Wide array of clothes, accessories, artefacts lured us from the start to the finish!
Bargaining is the word as you need to bargain everywhere…from the ticket counter to each shopping counter…. the experience is unique as the whole transaction happens while you are floating & enjoying the comforts of your boat and of course a humid sun(especially, if you are traveling in summer)! If you plan to visit this place, two things are mandatory – a good hat (to save your head from sun) & good bargaining skills.
Language never comes as a barrier in bargaining here…. the wise vendors use their mini calculators to show us the amount they expect and request us to enter in our expected amount! We can continue bargaining with the aid of mini calculators till we reach the agreeable rate! (Well, business is business… and there should not be any misunderstanding when it comes to money matters! 🙂 they seem very particular about it!)
one among the most photographed floating markets in the world
Thai style canoes thronged the canal with Thai food and fruits! Shops stood on platforms and they are quite an interesting sight to watch – there was a mix of rich Thai cultural heritage imbued with modern fad in clothing as well as artefacts displayed there!
Once, these khlongs of Thailand were the most vital network for communication and transportation!
